Celebrating our amazing Volunteers
Detective Sergeant Masters wanted to highlight the work that Volunteer Police Cadet Leader Stephen Cranford does with our young people at Adur and Worthing Volunteer Cadet Unit. DS Masters explains how Stephen was her Sergeant during her initial time as a young PC and now she is his.
DS Masters is a Unit Leader for Adur and Worthing Police Cadets and about a year or so ago, whilst struggling with leader retention, she posted in a social media group for serving and retired Sussex Police officers, seeking volunteers that would be interested in volunteering.
Stephen contacted her with an interest in joining the team, despite feeling that he was massively under qualified having been out of the Police family for over 20 years. With gentle encouragement and reassurance Stephen joined the unit in December 2023.
Stephen is very down-to-earth and along with being highly regarded by leaders and Cadets, his passion and enthusiasm is evident in all he does. He is a font of knowledge in a wide range of topics and is empathetic, approachable and kind-hearted.
Stephen never shies away from leading a Cadet session, attending nearly every week and his life experience and wide range of skills is an asset to the unit and we are all so grateful to have him as part of our team.
He is also loving being back in uniform after all these years! 👮♂️
